FG Targets N2.5 Trillion Independent Revenue by 2026

The Federal Government of Nigeria has raised its independent revenue target to N2.5 trillion for the year 2026. This announcement was made by Charl Abana, the Chief Executive Officer of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, during a meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.

The commission's monitoring revealed that approximately N1.84 trillion was generated in independent revenue by September 2025. Abana explained that the new target aims to enhance transparency in revenue reporting and ensure timely remittances of operational surpluses.

The commission plans to eliminate revenue leakages across public institutions and has reviewed its operational surplus calculation template, originally developed in 2016, to align with current fiscal realities. George Akum, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, called for stronger collaboration among fiscal oversight institutions to deepen transparency and prudent management of public finances.

The commission is focused on improving fiscal discipline amid growing expenditure demands and ensuring compliance with the Fiscal Responsibility Act.
