Malami and Son Re-Arraigned on Terrorism Charges

On Wednesday, February 3, 2023, the Federal Government re-arraigned former Attorney General Abubakar Malami and his son, Abdulaziz Abubakar Malami, at the Federal High Court in Abuja on five amended terrorism charges. The charges were presented by Justice Joyc Abdulmalik, replacing earlier charges.

During the proceedings, prosecuting counsel Akinlolu Kehind informed the court about the amended charges, which included allegations of unlawful possession of firearms and conspiracy. The defense counsel, Shuaibu Arua, confirmed receipt of the amended charges and stated that the defense had no objection to the substitution.

Justice Abdulmalik struck out the previous charges and read the new ones in court. Both defendants pleaded not guilty, and the lawyer requested to continue the bail previously granted, which the court approved without objection from the prosecution.

The case was adjourned to May 26, 2023, for the prosecution to begin presenting evidence. The charges date back to events in December 2025 in the Birnin Kebbi local government area of Kebbi State.
