Fagbemi Takes Over Malami's Terrorism Case Prosecution

Lateef Fagbemi, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has officially taken over the prosecution of Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, in a significant case involving terrorism and illegal firearms possession. This development occurred on Wednesday during a session at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Fagbemi, representing the Federal Directorate of Public Prosecution, informed Justice Joyce Abdulmalik that the case file had just been delivered and required thorough review before the prosecution could commence. The trial is scheduled to officially open on March 10, 2026.

Malami's son, Abdulazeez Malami, was granted bail of 200 million naira on February 27, 2026, with two sureties required to provide land property titles and valid international passports. The charges against them include abetting terrorism financing and unlawful possession of firearms, as outlined in the Terrorism (Prevention) Prohibition Act of 2022 and the Firearms Act of 2004.
