Malami and Son Re-arraigned on Terrorism Charges

On Wednesday, the Federal Government re-arraigned former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz Abubakar Malami, on amended charges related to terrorism. The five-count amended charge was presented before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The charges include allegations of unlawful possession of firearms and conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism, specifically occurring in December 2025 in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State. The prosecution, represented by Akinlolu Kehinde, informed the court of the intention to substitute the earlier charges, which the defense counsel, Shuaibu Arua, confirmed they did not object to.

Justice Abdulmalik struck out the former charges and ordered the new charges to be read, to which both defendants pleaded not guilty. The court granted a request to maintain the earlier bail of N200 million with two sureties, initially granted on February 27.

The trial is scheduled to commence on May 26, with the prosecution set to call witnesses and tender exhibits.
