FG Introduces New Subject Limits for Nigerian Schools to Enhance Education Quality

The Federal Government of Nigeria has released new subject limits for primary and secondary schools to enhance the quality of education and streamline the curriculum. The revised guidelines aim to reduce the number of subjects offered to students while improving content for a more meaningful learning experience.

Primary school pupils are now expected to study a minimum of nine and a maximum of twelve subjects, depending on their grade level. Junior secondary students can take between twelve to fourteen subjects, while senior secondary students are limited to eight to nine subjects.

The adjustments are designed to prevent overwhelming younger learners and allow older students to focus on core subjects relevant to their academic or vocational paths.
