Nigeria Repatriates 1,231 Citizens from Niger in One Week

The Federal Government of Nigeria successfully repatriated 1,231 Nigerians from the Niger Republic within a week, with the latest group of 523 returnees arriving on March 29, 2026. This operation was facilitated under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, with oversight from the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI).

The operation was coordinated by Hajiya Lubah Liman, who described the exercise as a voluntary evacuation for stranded Nigerian nationals. The latest batch followed an earlier group of 708 returnees received on March 23, 2026.

The breakdown of the returnees included 345 males (267 adult men and 78 boys) and 178 females (104 adult women and 74 girls). The returnees arrived from various parts of the country, including Kano, Jigawa, Plateau, Katsina, Taraba, Enugu, Ebonyi, Lagos, Borno, and Zamfara.

NCFRMI provided the returnees with starter packs containing essential materials for their reintegration.
