Nigeria Repatriates 1,231 Citizens from Niger in One Week

The Federal Government of Nigeria successfully repatriated a total of 1,231 Nigerians from Niger within one week, with the latest batch of 523 migrants arriving in Kano on Sunday, March 29, 2026. This operation was supervised by the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), with Tijjani Aliyu representing the commission.

The repatriation was part of a voluntary exercise to assist stranded Nigerian nationals in the Republic of Niger, facilitated by the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, along with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The latest operation followed an earlier batch of 708 returnees received on Monday, March 23, 2026.

The breakdown of the returnees included 345 males (comprising 267 adult men and 78 boys) and 178 females (including 104 adult women and 74 girls). The returnees arrived from various parts of the country, including Kano, Jigawa, Plateau, Katsina, Taraba, Enugu, Ebonyi, Lagos, Borno, Zamfara, and Bauchi.
