Nigeria and Morocco Partner on AI for Agriculture

On Friday, the Federal Government of Nigeria signed a memorandum of understanding with Morocco to deploy artificial intelligence in agricultural monitoring. The agreement, signed by Deputy Chief of Staff to the President Ibrahim Hadejia on behalf of the Federal Government, aims to establish a satellite-powered platform that will provide real-time data on agricultural land, crop distribution, and product performance.

This initiative is part of Nigeria's efforts to enhance food security and adapt agricultural technologies to local conditions. The partnership involves OCP Africa and Ground Truth Analytics, with the formal launch of Nigeria's first satellite-powered crop monitoring system marking a significant step in the National Agro Product System.

Marion Moon, representing the Presidential Food System Coordination Unit, emphasized the need for real-time visibility in agricultural practices to support better decision-making. The agreement is expected to strengthen agricultural investment and policy coordination at both federal and state levels.
