Nigeria Establishes AI and Cyber Diplomacy Unit

The Federal Government of Nigeria has created an Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cyber Diplomacy Unit within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to strengthen the country's engagement in global digital governance. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, announced this initiative in Abuja during the opening of the Second Seminar on Anticipatory, Cyber and Digital Diplomacy (ACDD 2.0).

The seminar, themed “From Awareness to Activation: Operationalising AI, Cyber and Digital Statecraft for Nigeria’s Foreign Policy,” aimed to explore the integration of emerging technologies into Nigeria’s foreign policy framework. The AI and Cyber Diplomacy Unit will coordinate Nigeria’s engagement on technological issues and enhance participation in global digital governance processes.

Enikanolaiye noted that the establishment of this unit was a significant outcome of the inaugural seminar held in 2025. He emphasized the need for Nigeria to modernize its diplomatic institutions in light of advancements in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital technology, which are transforming international relations.
