Nigeria Seeks China Partnership for Healthcare Development

The Federal Government of Nigeria is pursuing deeper collaboration with China in the healthcare sector, focusing on medical equipment, hospital development, diagnostics, digital health, research, and local manufacturing. This initiative was announced by Dr Iziaq Salako, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, at the 32nd China International Medical Equipment Exhibition and Scientific Conference, China-Hospeq 2026, held at the China National Convention Centre in Beijing.

Salako emphasized the need for Nigeria to expand its partnership with China beyond raw material trade to strategic cooperation that can sustainably improve healthcare. Under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the government is implementing reforms to strengthen primary healthcare and improve access to quality services.

Salako noted that achieving these goals requires not only increased funding but also stronger institutions, innovative technologies, and strategic international partnerships. He highlighted the relevance of the China-Africa hospital collaboration focus at the event and welcomed the growing emphasis on China-Africa health cooperation.
