Nigeria and China Strengthen Partnership in Agriculture

Nigeria and China are expanding their strategic partnership to include deeper cooperation in science, technology, sustainable agriculture, and innovation, as highlighted during the 2026 Seasonal Life & Harmonious China Cultural Exhibition in Abuja. The event, held at the China Cultural Centre, featured officials, diplomats, and cultural stakeholders showcasing Chinese traditions and discussing bilateral cooperation opportunities.

Dr Mukhtar Yawale Muhammad, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, stated that the partnership is evolving beyond conventional trade, particularly in agricultural transformation and technology transfer. He noted the significance of China’s achievements in socio-economic development and agricultural technologies, which Nigeria aims to adopt.

Muhammad mentioned a recent technical visit to China’s Yangling High-tech Agricultural Demonstration Zone, where advanced irrigation and soil-monitoring technologies were observed. He also highlighted China’s zero-tariff policy for products from 53 African countries as a major opportunity for Nigeria to enhance agricultural exports, potentially increasing farmers' incomes and strengthening the rural economy.
