FG Sets 12-Month Deadline for HR Certification Compliance

The Federal Government of Nigeria has mandated a 12-month deadline for civil servants engaged in human resource functions across ministries, departments, and agencies to obtain recognized professional certification. This directive, communicated through a circular from the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, aims to professionalize human resource management within the federal civil service.

The circular grants a 12-month moratorium for current HR officers to acquire the necessary certification, failing which they risk becoming ineligible for deployment in key personnel management positions. The certification must be obtained from recognized bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management Nigeria and other accredited institutions.

During the moratorium, HR officers must provide evidence of enrollment and progress towards certification within six months. After the moratorium, possessing the certification will be mandatory for HR roles.

This initiative is part of ongoing reforms aimed at improving the efficiency of personnel administration across the public service.
