FG Targets ₦2.5tn Revenue by 2026 to Boost Economy

The Federal Government of Nigeria has set an ambitious independent revenue target of ₦2.5 trillion for the year 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen fiscal sustainability and improve public revenue collection. This announcement was made during a meeting in Abuja, led by Charl Abana, the Executive Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), alongside Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

The FRC reported that approximately ₦1.84 trillion was generated by federal ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) as of September 2025. The new revenue target aims to enhance oversight of government revenue operations and ensure prompt remittance of operational surpluses.

Abana emphasized the need for improved transparency in revenue reporting and the elimination of revenue leakages across public institutions. The commission plans to modernize its revenue assessment framework and strengthen collaboration with various fiscal institutions to promote accountability and efficient management of public finances, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's agenda for economic stability.
