Nigeria's Military Spending Reaches N74.96 Billion (2023-2025)

According to data from the GovSpend civic technology platform, the Federal Government of Nigeria expended at least N74.96 billion on arms and military equipment between 2023 and 2025. The spending peaked in 2024 at N40.84 billion, a rise from N33.30 billion in 2023, with a sharp drop to N819.46 million in 2025.

The Ministry of Defence was responsible for the bulk of this expenditure, with N9.17 billion allocated for ammunition procurement by November 7, 2023. Additional significant transactions included N6.89 billion for similar purchases on November 21, 2023, and various other procurements throughout the period.

In 2024, the Ministry recorded five separate payments totaling N33.22 billion for urgent military equipment, which accounted for 80% of that year's total arms-related expenditure. The government has earmarked N13.12 billion for arms and ammunition-related equipment in 2026, indicating a continued investment in national security.
