NSIB Investigates Enugu Air Runway Excursion in Benin

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has begun an investigation into a runway excursion involving an Enugu Air aircraft at Benin Airport, Edo State, which occurred on Thursday. The incident involved an Embraer E170 operating as Flight 4264 from Lagos to Benin, which veered off the runway after landing.

Fortunately, all 63 passengers and five crew members disembarked safely without injuries. The NSIB activated its emergency response protocol, deploying its Go Team to the airport shortly after being notified.

Investigators are preserving evidence, interviewing the flight crew, and examining the aircraft and runway conditions. The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and other airport authorities have been informed as per standard procedures.

NSIB Director-General Alex Badeh Jr. emphasized the importance of treating every runway excursion seriously and confirmed that a preliminary report will be released within 30 days, with a comprehensive final report to follow. The bureau urged the public to avoid speculation during the investigation.
