FG Plans 20,000 Medical Student Admissions by 2026

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to establish six world-class medical simulation centres across the country's six geopolitical zones. This initiative aims to increase annual medical school admissions from nearly 12,000 to 20,000 within the next three years.

Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, revealed this during the reception of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund Medical Simulation Committee's report. The centres will provide practical training for medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy, and other allied healthcare students.

Alausa noted a significant rise in nursing enrolment from about 38,000 three years ago to over 120,000 currently, alongside an increase in medical school admissions since President Bola Tinubu took office. The initiative is part of the Federal Government's strategy under the Renewed Hope Agenda to expand Nigeria's healthcare workforce, addressing concerns over the migration of healthcare professionals seeking better opportunities abroad.
