FG Launches Initiative for 2.9 Million Pregnant Women

The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced a new package of incentives under the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Initiative (MAMII), aimed at reaching 2.9 million pregnant women with free maternal and newborn healthcare services across 172 local government areas. First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu launched the initiative in Abuja, emphasizing its goal to encourage women, especially in vulnerable communities, to access antenatal care, skilled delivery, and postnatal services.

The initiative includes the distribution of 215,000 Mama Kits, 40,000 maternal food support packs, and 40,000 sets of essential newborn clothing. Senator Tinubu stated that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes health as a key aspect of national development.

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare plans to extend these distributions to areas with low uptake of MAMII incentives. Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, reiterated the government's commitment to reducing maternal mortality, a significant public health challenge.
