First Lady Launches Maternal Health Initiative in Abuja

On Monday, at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, advocated for stronger collaboration among various government tiers, traditional and religious institutions, development partners, and philanthropists to combat Nigeria's maternal and newborn mortality crisis. This call coincided with the Federal Government's distribution of 215,000 MAMA kits, 40,000 maternal food-support packs, and 40,000 sets of newborn clothing to vulnerable women and families across the nation.

Mrs. Tinubu emphasized that pregnancy and childbirth should be joyful experiences, not life-threatening events. She stated that the initiative, part of the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII) by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, aims to improve access to antenatal, delivery, and postnatal services.

This distribution marks the second phase of the intervention, following an earlier distribution of 110,000 kits in 2025. The program aligns with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda on Health, focusing on healthcare as a priority for national development.
