FG Targets Yabatech for Industrial Innovation Hub

The Federal Government is intensifying efforts to transform Nigeria's polytechnics into centers of innovation and industrial growth, with Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) positioned as a key hub. This initiative was underscored during a visit by a ministerial committee focused on skill development and engineering workshops.

Led by Prof. Sodiq Abubakar, the committee aims to shift the educational system from certification-driven learning to practical skill acquisition and the commercialization of innovative products.

Yabatech was selected for its long-standing reputation in engineering and technical education. The program seeks to move beyond research prototypes to full-scale industrial products, inspired by Japan's post-World War II industrial model.

The government plans to provide significant funding to support viable product partnerships and create jobs. Dr.

Ibraheem Abdul emphasized the need for stronger partnerships with the private sector to enhance market expertise and commercial viability, while Chief Olawumi Gasper noted the importance of innovation-driven enterprise development.
