YABATECH's Transition to University Status Progressing

Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) is on track to transition into a full-fledged university, as confirmed by Rector Dr. Ibraheem Abdul.

During the matriculation ceremony for 17,130 newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session, Abdul announced that the federal government, under President Bola Tinubu, approved the conversion of the 79-year-old institution. The legislative process is ongoing in the National Assembly, with the rector reaffirming the commitment to this transition.

He clarified that YABATECH will continue to operate as a polytechnic until the regulatory accreditation process by the National Universities Commission (NUC) is completed. The rector also unveiled plans for infrastructure expansion, including a proposed N5 billion intervention fund for constructing a 13-storey building and a N2 billion faculty development project.

Additionally, a new hostel project is expected to provide 1,500 bed spaces for students. Abdul urged students to embrace academic discipline and avoid social vices.
