FG Sets March 31 for Enugu–Onitsha Expressway Reopening

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a target date of March 31 for the reopening of the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, as disclosed by Minister of Works, Dave Umahi. This announcement was made in a statement signed by Senior Special Assistant Francis Nwaze in Abuja on Tuesday.

Umahi highlighted that the reopening is crucial for public travel, particularly with the upcoming Easter celebrations. He expressed confidence that the road, notorious for fatal accidents and traffic gridlock, will undergo significant improvements.

The project, which spans 107 kilometers, will involve a major structural shift, converting a significant portion of the road from asphalt to concrete to ensure durability. Umahi also mentioned that the project includes enhancements such as solar-powered street lights and aims to improve safety.

He urged the people of the South East to recognize the federal government's intervention in the region and called for support for President Bola Tinubu's administration, emphasizing the need to correct past neglect in infrastructure development.
