FG Urges Employers to Uphold Labor Standards for Workers

During the 69th annual general meeting of the Nigeria Employers' Consultative Association (NECA) held in Lagos, the Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr. Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, called on employers to uphold international labor standards for the welfare of Nigerian workers.

Dingyadi stated that the government is committed to implementing reforms aimed at attracting investment and improving the country's business environment. He highlighted the role of the private sector in reducing unemployment and emphasized the need for businesses to comply with labor laws and respect workers' rights.

NECA President, Mr. Ifeanyi Okoy, discussed challenges such as unstable power supply and technological disruptions, while expressing optimism about reforms in the power sector that could reduce business costs.

Additionally, Vice President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Mr. Adewal Adeyanju, mentioned the ongoing negotiations for a new national minimum wage, which presents an opportunity to improve worker welfare.
