Nigeria to Launch Local Production of Family Planning Commodities

The federal government of Nigeria has announced its intention to commence local production of family planning commodities, aiming to strengthen the healthcare value chain, reduce reliance on imports, and enhance access to reproductive health products. This initiative will be executed through a partnership with Bayer Pharmaceuticals and a local manufacturer, marking a significant milestone for Nigeria's pharmaceutical industry.

Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, revealed this plan during the inauguration of a high-level meeting of the Nigeria Inter-Ministerial Platform on Family Planning, Health, Human Capital, and National Development in Abuja.

The production facility will be established in Anambra State, making it the first of its kind in Nigeria and the sub-Saharan African region. The initiative is part of broader efforts to cultivate a healthier population that can contribute to Nigeria's economic development and aims to create jobs while ensuring the availability of essential family planning products.
