FG Enhances Ogun Power Supply with New Substation

The Federal Government of Nigeria, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, is set to improve power supply in Ogun State through the construction of a new substation in Abeokuta. Kenni Anuw, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Government of Nigeria Power Company, reaffirmed the administration's commitment to enhancing electricity supply nationwide.

The project, which involves a $161 million contract with Siemens Energy, will upgrade five brownfield substations located in Abeokuta, Oyo State, Offa in Kwara State, Onitsha in Anambra State, and Sokoto. The new Abeokuta substation is expected to add 480MW to the national grid, significantly boosting electricity supply across Ogun State.

Civil construction is anticipated to be completed by June or July, with electrical installations commencing afterward, aiming for commissioning by December 2026. Ebenez Fapohunda, Chief Technical Officer of the FGN Power Company, noted that the upgrade will enhance the existing 132kV capacity to 330kV, addressing the current power reliability issues in Ogun State.
