Nigeria's 480MW Power Boost Project in Ogun State

The Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Kenni Anuw, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Government Nigeria Power Company, has announced plans to enhance power supply in Ogun State by 480 megawatts. This initiative is part of President Bola Tinubu's administration's commitment to improving electricity supply nationwide.

A significant investment includes a $161 million contract with Siemens Energy to upgrade five brownfield substations located in Abeokuta, Ayed, Oyo State, Offa in Kwara State, and Onitsha in Anambra State. The new Abeokuta substation is expected to complement existing infrastructure and is part of a broader presidential power initiative aimed at adding 1,000 megawatts to the national grid.

The construction is on track for completion by the end of 2026, with civil works concluding in June or July and electrical work commencing in December. The project aims to address the current insufficiencies in power supply, particularly in Ogun State, where the existing source often leads to load shedding.
