FG Directs Dangote to Boost Sugar Production by 2030

The Federal Government of Nigeria has instructed the Dangote Group to increase its sugar production capacity to 600,000 metric tons by the year 2030. This directive was issued by Mr.

Kamar Bakrin, the Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), during his visit to the DSR Complex in Numan, Adamawa State. The visit was part of ongoing strategic inspections of sugar projects across the country, aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's directive to accelerate Nigeria's self-sufficiency in sugar production.

Currently, local sugar production is significantly below the 1.8 million metric tons consumed annually, and the DSR is expected to contribute at least 600,000 metric tons by 2030. Mr.

Bakrin emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to achieve the goals set forth in the Nigeria Sugar Master Plan (NSMP). Mr.

Olakunl Alak, representing the Dangote Group, assured the minister of the company's commitment to investing resources to meet the production target.
