FG to Implement Performance Monitoring in Education Sector

The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to enforce a performance monitoring framework in the education sector, as announced by Dasuki Arabi, the Director General of the Bureau of Public Service Reform (BPSR). This initiative aims to strengthen oversight in the education sector, which faces persistent challenges such as funding gaps, infrastructural deficits, and outdated curricula.

The government recognizes that these issues significantly affect both school and university education, which are crucial for national development. The performance framework will include self-evaluation tools for educational institutions to enhance accountability and service delivery.

Recent measures to support this reform include a commitment to a 40% pay rise for university staff as part of the FGN-ASUU agreement, increased research funding, and the implementation of a student loan scheme to expand access to higher education, ensuring that no qualified student is left behind. The overall goal is to align educational reforms with the broader public service strategy and the Renewed Hope Agenda for educational transformation by 2026.
