FG to Inaugurate 15km Enugu–Onitsha Expressway Stretch

The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to inaugurate a completed 15-kilometer portion of the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, aimed at alleviating traffic challenges and enhancing economic activities in the South East region. Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed this during an inspection tour of ongoing federal road projects in Enugu, which is part of a nationwide tour across six geopolitical zones to identify projects ready for inauguration ahead of May 29.

Umahi highlighted the government's commitment to infrastructure development in the region, noting that the South East should appreciate the federal government's efforts without discrimination. He mentioned that the current administration inherited a debt of N13 trillion and 2,068 projects nationwide, which complicates road development.

Umahi expressed satisfaction with the quality of work on the Enugu–Onitsha corridor, which is strategically important for reducing traffic congestion. He also discussed the redesign of the Enugu-Port Harcourt dual carriageway and the need for timely compensation payments to facilitate project completion.
