Nigeria to Launch 10,000 Electric Tricycles in 2026

The Nigerian government is set to roll out 10,000 electric tricycles to the market in August 2026, as part of a comprehensive strategy to improve public transport across Nigeria. Vice President Kashim Shettima disclosed this initiative during a courtesy call with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The rollout will be managed by the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) and aims to address the fragmented transport system in Nigeria. Shettima highlighted the administration's commitment to building a robust transport economy that lowers movement costs and reduces delays at ports.

The initiative is part of a broader transport reform agenda that includes upgrading major ports and enhancing the logistics chain. The government is also focused on utilizing domestic gas resources to reduce transport costs, particularly for heavy-duty vehicles.

Shettima assured that the administration will continue to support policies that promote affordable fuel and dignified working conditions for transport workers.
