FG Launches 40 CNG Buses and 200 Tricycles in Kano

The Federal Government of Nigeria has deployed 40 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses and 200 CNG-powered tricycles in Kano State as part of its efforts to promote cleaner, cheaper, and sustainable transport across the country. Ismaeel Ahm, the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI), disclosed this information in a statement shared on Facebook, marking the first anniversary of his office.

The deployment is part of the Federal Government's strategy to expand the use of alternative energy in Nigeria's transport sector. The initiative includes the establishment of CNG and liquefied compressed natural gas (LCNG) stations in various cities, including Kano, Katsina, Gombe, Kaduna, and Owerri, to improve access to cleaner fuel.

The program has recorded significant progress nationwide, including an increase in the number of CNG-converted vehicles and the launch of a program for 100,000 conversion kits. The initiative aims to reduce transport costs, lower carbon emissions, and encourage the adoption of cleaner energy alternatives across Nigeria.
