FG to Train 6,000 Energy Professionals for Power Sector

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a plan to train 6,000 energy professionals as part of the Presidential Power Initiative, which was inaugurated on Tuesday in Abeokuta. Samaila Nasiru, the Director of Human Resource Management at the Federal Ministry of Power, emphasized the initiative's commitment to modernizing and expanding Nigeria's power infrastructure.

He noted that significant investments have been made in grid transmission and distribution, but these alone cannot resolve the sector's challenges without building capacity. The five-year program aims to develop a highly skilled workforce capable of operating and maintaining complex power systems.

Kenni Anuw, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Government Power Company, stated that the initiative aligns with the goals of the Presidential Power Initiative and aims to embed technical skills within the local workforce. The training will be supported by partnerships with regulatory bodies and will provide internationally recognized certification, ensuring employment opportunities across Nigeria and the ECOWAS sub-region.
