Engineers Urge FG to Achieve 25,000MW Power Target

At a press conference, Prof. Rahamon Bello, President of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering, called on the Federal Government to expedite efforts to achieve a 25,000MW power target.

He highlighted the urgent need for financial reforms and infrastructure upgrades in Nigeria's power sector, which faces chronic liquidity issues. Bello commended the government's initiatives and pledged the Academy's support for the presidential power sector financial reform program.

He specifically advocated for the immediate issuance of specialized bonds to settle outstanding debts owed to gas suppliers, which would help stabilize electricity supply nationwide. Bello urged the government to accelerate the implementation of the presidential power initiative without delay, emphasizing the importance of upgrading the national grid and pursuing a diverse energy mix, including solar and hydro energy sources.

The Academy's activities will culminate in the 2026 apex event, focusing on innovation and mentorship in engineering.
