FG and UNDP Launch AI UNIPOD to Boost Innovation

The Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), launched the Artificial Intelligence University Innovation Pod (AI UNIPOD) on an unspecified date. This initiative aims to enhance technological innovation by establishing AI UNIPODs across six tertiary institutions in six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

The first phase of the project is designed to provide unique economic opportunities and address developmental challenges in the regions. Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, emphasized the initiative's potential to transform tertiary institutions into platforms for enterprise development.

The project aligns with Nigeria's development priorities and aims to generate jobs and strengthen industries. Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Bosun Tijani highlighted the importance of research and innovation in positioning Nigeria among the top 25 global AI hubs.

The initiative is supported by various stakeholders, including TETFund's Sonni Echono, who noted the need for market-ready solutions to empower young minds.
