FG and UNICEF Train Journalists on Child Rights Reporting

The Federal Ministry of Information, in partnership with UNICEF, organized a two-day workshop aimed at empowering journalists in Gombe State, located in Northeast Nigeria. The workshop focused on equipping media professionals with practical tools and best practices for reporting on children's stories, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing children's protection.

Temitoy Falayi, the Director of the Federal Ministry of Information, highlighted the significant ethical responsibilities journalists have when covering stories involving children. Sussan Akila from UNICEF underscored the critical role of the media in balancing public interest with child protection, calling for clear newsroom guidelines and protocols for reporting on minors.

The training included sessions on handling ethical dilemmas and the legal implications of reporting child abuse. This initiative demonstrates the government's commitment to safeguarding children's rights and aims to improve the quality of child-focused reporting across the region, ultimately contributing to a safer information environment for Nigeria's children.
