FG and UNICEF Collaborate on Youth Employment Strategy

The Federal Government and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) convened a Southern Zonal Consultative Meeting on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to discuss the review and update of the Nigeria Youth Employment Action Plan (NIYEAP) 2025–2030. This two-day consultation, organized by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development in collaboration with development partners, aimed to create a more inclusive and market-driven youth employment strategy.

Chief Youth Development Officer Bakare Abayomi represented the Minister of Youth Development, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive review to address youth unemployment and underemployment. He highlighted the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders, including federal and state governments, private sector, civil society, and young people.

Abayomi identified key sectors such as technology, agriculture, and tourism as potential job creators. The revised NIYEAP will consider the needs of young women, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups, with recommendations from the consultation being integrated into the national framework.
