FG Introduces Adire Uniform for NYSC Amid Reforms

The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled a new adire uniform for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), replacing the traditional khaki uniform. This initiative, announced by the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, is part of a broader reform package aimed at transforming the 53-year-old national service scheme.

The reforms intend to bolster Nigeria's textile industry by ensuring government expenditures benefit local manufacturers, particularly in Ogun and Kwara states. Additionally, the NYSC will adopt a professional deployment system that aligns corps members' postings with their academic qualifications and career backgrounds.

This change aims to make the deployment process more efficient and address safety concerns often expressed by parents regarding their children’s postings, especially in regions with security issues. The Federal Executive Council has approved a comprehensive overhaul of the NYSC, which will now operate under a new legal framework, with civilian leadership while maintaining military support for security.
