FG Replaces NYSC Khaki Uniform with Adire Fabric

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially announced that the traditional khaki uniform for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will be replaced with Adire fabric. This decision was made by the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, during a Thursday appearance on Channels Television.

The change is part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening local production and ensuring that public spending supports the Nigerian economy. Olawande emphasized that Adire is already widely manufactured in various parts of Nigeria, particularly in Ogun and Kwara states.

The government aims to boost the indigenous textile industry and promote local craftsmanship. Additionally, the NYSC is undergoing a restructuring of its posting system to ensure that corps members are deployed based on their professional backgrounds and areas of study, rather than arbitrarily.

This reform is intended to enhance the efficiency of the deployment process, particularly in regions facing security challenges. The changes mark the first major overhaul of the NYSC program in five decades.
