Nigerian Government Launches Free Business Registration for MSMEs to Boost Growth

The Nigerian government has introduced a free business registration initiative for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to ease the burden of registration costs and bureaucracy. This move aims to formalize many small businesses, providing them with access to finance, markets, and government support.

The initiative will cover the costs of business name registration, linking beneficiaries directly to the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) database for further support. This step is crucial in helping entrepreneurs in Nigeria take their first steps towards growth, legitimacy, and accessing larger opportunities in the MSME ecosystem.

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) estimates foregoing approximately ₦2 billion in registration fees.
