Nigeria Launches Gender Policy for Inclusive Agrifood Growth

The Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Abubakar Kyari, unveiled a revised gender policy designed to drive inclusive growth in the agrifood sector, with a focus on achieving targets set for 2025 and 2030. The policy aims to address longstanding gender disparities in agricultural representation and productivity.

Minister of State Aliyu Abdullahi Kyari emphasized the central role of women in food production and the barriers they face, highlighting the need for equitable access to land, finance, technology, and decision-making across the value chain. The policy includes a practical framework to ensure these goals are met.

Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim noted that the revised framework aims to expand women's access to critical resources and services, introducing clear targets for gender equity. Andrew Mamedu from ActionAid Nigeria stressed that the success of the policy will depend on political will, funding, and institutional accountability.
