Nigeria Validates Gender Policy to Transform Agrifood Systems

The Nigerian government has validated a revised gender policy on agrifood systems, which aims to transform the country's agricultural landscape by promoting gender equity and enhancing food security. This initiative, supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, ActionAid Nigeria, AGRA, and GIZ, is part of a strategic plan for 2025-2030.

During the event in Abuja, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, emphasized the importance of equitable access to resources and decision-making opportunities for both women and men in the agricultural sector.

He noted that agriculture is central to Nigeria's national priorities, contributing significantly to food security and economic growth. Sen.

Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, highlighted collaborative efforts with various stakeholders, including the First Lady, to implement initiatives at local government levels.

The policy aims to address challenges affecting gender inclusivity in the agricultural sector and strengthen coordination for improved access to inputs for vulnerable groups.
