Nigeria Launches Upgraded Database for Raw Materials

On Tuesday, during a media briefing in Abuja, the Federal Government of Nigeria unveiled an upgraded database designed to provide real-time data on the country's raw materials. This initiative, led by the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) under the direction of Prof.

Nnanyelugo Ik Muonso, represents a significant milestone in Nigeria's efforts to build a data-driven industrial economy. The new system, formally known as the Nigerian Statistical Information System for Raw Materials, is an upgrade from the previous raw materials information framework.

It integrates data from major national institutions, including the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency, to offer insights into the quality and characteristics of raw materials across the country. The platform aims to address challenges related to fragmented resource data and import dependence, while also supporting Nigeria's industrial policies, particularly the goal of adding 30 percent value to raw material exports.

Chinyer Nnamdi Anum emphasized the importance of media engagement in promoting the council's work and fostering public understanding.
