SOWENON Urges Government to Tackle Food Security Crisis

The South West East North Of Nigeria Cord. initiative (SOWENON), led by National Coordinator Dr. Sam Jenfa, has called on the Federal Government to urgently address the escalating food security crisis in Nigeria. In a statement made on Sunday in Abuja, Dr. Jenfa highlighted the critical situation where many citizens suffer from hunger, malnutrition, and poor health due to food insecurity.

He urged the government to implement more empowerment schemes for farmers and those involved in the agricultural value chain. Dr. Jenfa criticized the quality of economic advice provided to the President, contrasting it with the harsh realities faced by ordinary Nigerians, including rising living costs and unemployment.

While acknowledging some successes of the Tinubu administration in security, he stressed that improved security alone is insufficient; farmers also need access to affordable finance and modern equipment. Additionally, he recognized the government's infrastructure investments, such as the Lagos-Kano Standard Gauge Railway, which aims to enhance trade and connectivity.
