FG Encourages Young Engineers at Innovation Summit 2026

At the Young Engineers Innovation Summit (YEIS) 2026 held in Abuja, the Federal Government called on young engineers to develop home-grown solutions. Ibiam Oguejiofo, representing the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, highlighted the significance of engineering in sectors such as electricity, transportation, and healthcare.

He urged young engineers to leverage the Nigeria First Policy to create technologies that solve local problems while competing globally. Oguejiofo pointed out that Nigerian manufacturers spend over N1 trillion annually on self-generated electricity due to inadequate public power supply, presenting an opportunity for local engineers to innovate in areas like smart electricity grids and renewable energy systems.

Ahmed Yusuf, the national coordinator of YEFON, stated that the summit aimed to connect young engineers with policymakers and industry leaders, fostering innovation through mentorship and strategic partnerships. Yusuf emphasized the forum's commitment to nurturing engineers who can address Nigeria's energy, infrastructure, and technology needs.
