Nigeria Targets Foreigners Overstaying Visas, Says Minister

On Thursday, during the 2026 sector performance review retreat in Abuja, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, disclosed that the Federal Government of Nigeria will actively pursue foreigners who overstay their visas. The government has developed a comprehensive data system that enables authorities to track individuals who have entered the country over the past decade and determine those who fail to comply with visa conditions.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen border management and enforce immigration regulations across Nigeria. Tunji-Ojo emphasized the need for reforms within various agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to ensure transparent service delivery without corruption.

He highlighted the government's commitment to protecting citizens, particularly vulnerable groups, and stressed the importance of accountability and effective service delivery in addressing immigration issues.
