FG Workers Protest Against Unity Colleges Concession Plan

On Monday, workers from the Federal Ministry of Education and leaders of affiliated trade unions protested in Abuja against the Federal Government’s concession of King’s College, Lagos, and plans involving Federal Unity Colleges. The protesters gathered at the Ministry of Education's headquarters, demanding the government reverse the concession arrangement and reject any transfer of management to private organizations.

This protest follows the education unions' suspension of student resumption in Federal Unity Colleges until their concerns are addressed. The unions warned that the controversy could impact over 100 Federal Unity Colleges if the government does not change its stance.

Comrade Gali Habib, a trade union leader, emphasized the importance of these colleges in providing quality education to students from diverse backgrounds and argued that privatization would hinder access for low-income families. He called for increased government funding for infrastructure and teacher welfare, stating that the workers would continue their industrial action until the government reverses its decision.
