Workers Protest Concession of King’s College, Lagos

On 14 September 2026, workers at the Federal Ministry of Education, led by Samson Chigozie Nnegdi, Chairman of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), shut down the ministry's headquarters in protest against plans to concession Federal Government Colleges (FGCs). The protest was sparked by the ministry's recent concession of King’s College, Lagos, to the King’s College Old Boys’ Association (KCOBA), which has led to legal disputes.

A letter dated 4 September 2026, signed by Dr Folake Olatunji-David, indicated that arrangements for the transfer of management to KCOBA had been finalized, with a transition committee established to oversee the process. The transition is expected to be completed within six months, after which funding from the Federation Account will cease.

The ministry instructed the principal of King’s College to facilitate the transition and provide a list of staff willing to remain with the Federal Civil Service Commission. The concession plan has faced opposition, with indications of legal action from KCOBA.
