Education Ministry Workers Suspend Strike Over King's College

Workers of the Federal Ministry of Education have agreed to suspend their industrial action following a meeting with the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of State, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, concerning the proposed concession of King’s College, Lagos. The meeting, held in Abuja, resulted in an agreement to de-escalate tensions and restore normalcy.

Workers will immediately suspend their protest against the planned takeover by the Old Boys Association, with assurances that no staff will face victimization for participating in the protest. A two-week pause on the implementation of the takeover was agreed upon to allow for further dialogue.

Additionally, policemen stationed at King’s College will be redeployed, and a seven-man committee will be established to negotiate and examine the federal government’s agreement with the Old Students Association regarding the college's management. Alausa stated that the government remains committed to the concession despite opposition, emphasizing the need for improved infrastructure and management at the college.
