FG Clarifies NYSC Uniform Replacement with Adire Fabric

The Nigerian Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, clarified that there has been no final decision made to replace the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) khaki uniform with adire fabric. This statement follows public reactions to comments made by Olawande during a television interview.

He explained that his reference to adire was merely illustrative, as part of ongoing considerations for a review of the NYSC scheme. Olawande emphasized that the government is carefully evaluating various options for a new uniform that meets professional standards, reflects national identity, and is cost-effective.

He urged Nigerians not to let discussions about the proposed uniform distract from the broader reform agenda aimed at improving the NYSC program, which includes enhancing youth employment, promoting entrepreneurship, and strengthening national integration. Earlier, Olawande indicated that the government intends to support local textile production as part of the uniform review, which is part of a comprehensive reform of the 53-year-old NYSC scheme.
