No Final Decision on NYSC Adire Uniform, FG Clarifies

The Nigerian government, through Minister Ayodele Olawande, clarified that there has been no final decision regarding the adoption of Adire fabric as a new uniform for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). This statement follows widespread reactions to remarks made during an interview where Olawande mentioned Adire and Ankara as potential alternatives to the traditional khaki uniform.

He emphasized that these fabrics were cited as examples in the context of ongoing reforms within the NYSC scheme, which has been in place for 53 years. The government is considering various options to enhance the professional outlook and national identity of the NYSC while ensuring cost-effectiveness.

Olawande urged Nigerians not to let the debate over the uniform overshadow the broader objectives of the NYSC reforms, which include improving employment opportunities, promoting entrepreneurship, and enhancing service delivery.
