Legal Dispute Over N36bn FGC Kano Land Deal Emerges

A legal dispute has emerged regarding a N36 billion land deal involving the Federal Government College (FGC) Kano, which encompasses approximately 33 hectares of land allocated to Pluck Global Construction Company under a public-private partnership arrangement. The Federal Ministry of Education described this arrangement as a strategic effort to upgrade infrastructure within the institution.

However, the alumni association, FGCKOSA, has raised concerns about the long-term implications of the agreement, particularly regarding its impact on the school's assets and financial environment. FGCKOSA estimates the land's value at N36 billion and has proposed infrastructure developments, including a sports complex and classroom renovations, with an estimated cost of N8.5 billion.

They have called for greater transparency in the valuation process to ensure fair representation of the institution's value. The association has also obtained an interim injunction from the Federal High Court in Kano to temporarily halt any further action on the project pending the outcome of legal proceedings, urging the federal government to review the arrangement.
